Three Improvisations, Op. 2

Volume 5
FUTURE RELEASE, VOLUME 5
LISTEN

About this work:
Composed before the First Sonata (Op. 5), these works belong to Medtner's formative years. While they are more overtly Romantic and rhapsodic than his later music, they already reveal his tendency to build large musical ideas from small thematic cells—a hallmark of his mature style. The first piece, Nixe, also introduces a water-spirit image that would reappear elsewhere in his oeuvre.
