Sonata in F minor, Op. 5

Composed while Medtner was still establishing himself in Moscow, Op. 5 predates the sonata cycles, Skazki, and Forgotten Melodies that would later bring him recognition. Although his later music became more complex and refined, this sonata already demonstrates the extraordinary committment to classical ideals that would become one of his defining qualities.
