Second Improvisations, Op. 47

The Improvisation No. 2, Op. 47 is one of Medtner's most ambitious and original piano works. Cast as a theme and sixteen variations, it combines the freedom of improvisation with the architectural rigor of a large-scale variation cycle. Written in 1925 and dedicated to the French organist and composer Marcel Dupré.
