Four Lyrical Fragments, Op. 23

Op. 23 reveals Medtner's gift for expressing profound emotions within concise forms. Although smaller in scale than the sonatas, they exhibit the same motivic concentration, contrapuntal craftsmanship, and poetic depth that characterize his larger works. The set was dedicated to the pianist and teacher Alexander Goldenweiser.
