About this work:
Forgotten Melodies Op. 38 is one of Medtner's most beloved and unified piano cycles, composed during the turbulent years following the Russian Revolution and shortly before his emigration from Russia. The cycle consists of eight interconnected pieces centered around the idea of memory, recollection, and nostalgia. The opening Sonata reminiscenza serves as the emotional and thematic core, with its principal motif reappearing throughout the cycle and returning in the final piece, Alla reminiscenza.
