Arabeskes, Op. 7

About this work:
The Three Arabesques, Op. 7 are among Medtner's earliest mature piano works. Written shortly after the First Sonata and the early songs, they reveal a young composer already moving beyond conventional Romantic character pieces toward the concentrated motivic development and psychological depth that would define his later style. The set consists of three contrasting miniatures: an idyllic opening piece followed by two dramatic "Tragedy Fragments."
